Mutant Devices was established in 2020 as a place to build ambitious digital products.
Art.Industries is shaped by more than fifteen years of experience working with galleries, managing artists’ studios and overseeing art collections in New York City, alongside a background in building systems at a leading financial technology company, where security, payments, investment and trust guide every decision.
Our different backgrounds taught us versions of the same lesson: important information needs structure, valuable relationships need continuity, and the systems people rely on must earn their trust.
The meeting of those two disciplines became the foundation for Art.Industries.

Creative businesses have traditionally had to choose between two imperfect options.
Specialist systems understand inventory and documentation but often stop before commerce, communication or presentation. Generic commerce platforms make it easy to list and sell products but treat every object as another interchangeable item. To run the complete business, galleries and studios are left assembling a costly collection of databases, website builders, payment services, mailing platforms and operational tools.
We believed there should be something better.

Our knowledge of the art world shaped Art.Industries, but the need we recognized extends far beyond it.
Collectible design, antiques, jewelry, watches, vintage pieces, limited editions and studio-made objects present many of the same challenges. Their identity matters. Their maker matters. Material, condition, provenance, scarcity, context and ownership matter. The relationship between the person selling an object and the person acquiring it matters too.
These things cannot always be reduced to a title, an image, a price and a stock number.
That is what we mean by creative commerce: commerce for objects with identity, history and cultural value, and for the people whose knowledge and judgment bring those qualities forward.
